Possessive nouns

Possessive nouns show ownership of items by the noun. Examples:

  • The table's legs: the legs belong to the table.
  • The man's head
  • The boy's legs
  • The ball's curvature

Plural Possessive nouns

When forming a plural possessive noun, the apostrophe goes after the s. Examples:

  • All of the students' books
  • The wasps' nest
  • All the employees' paychecks

Proper nouns

Proper nouns are names of actual people or organizations. Examples:

  • John
  • Susie
  • Tammy
  • Lu
  • Buddy
  • Thomas

Rules for forming plural nouns

If the noun ends with s, sh, ch, x, and z to form a plural you add an e. Examples:

  • Bus end with an s so you add an es to form the plural buses
  • Box ends with an x so you an es to form the plural boxes
  • Brush ends with an sh so you add an es to form brushes
  • Watch ends with ch so you add an es to form the plural watches
  • Waltz ends with z so you add an es to form the plural waltzes
  • Business ends with ss so you add an es to form the plural businessess
