Parts of Speech
Nouns are things. Nouns can be classified as: Noun, Proper Noun, Pronoun.
Nouns are just name a thing like desk, door, floor. Proper Nouns name a specific person or thing. Examples of Proper Nouns: Tom, Jane, Lynn-They are proper nouns because they list a specific person.
- Adjectives describe nouns.
- Verbs are action words.
- Adverbs describe verbs.
Prepositions link nouns to other words. Examples of prepositions are to, or, in, with.
Conjunctions are words that link words, phrases, and clauses. They are also used sometimes to link two sentences together to make one sentence. Examples of conjunctions are for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
Interjections are words that are not necessary to the meaning of a sentence but express the emotion of the writer. They can stand alone or be part of a sentence. Examples of interjections are: Ouch! Okay. Hey. Oh.

The Crime
Sam Smith had killed his neighbor, Bob Newman. Nobody knew exactly why he did it, but there was rampant speculation about his motive. Some people believed he was jealous of Bob because Bob had just received a promotion at his work as a software engineer. Sam worked at the same place Software Solutions, Inc., but he was just a lowly messenger and all-around step-and-fetch-it type person. If anyone needed anything of a non-technical nature done, such as changing light bulbs or running to the store for anything, Sam was their man. Sam really didn’t appreciate how important his job was, and his salary didn’t help to remind him of his importance since he made less than even the secretaries at the business.
He was caught right away, but the evidence wasn’t very conclusive. Everyone knew he did it, but they couldn’t find the gun he used and there were no witnesses. The trial started in September. Sam pleaded not guilty of course, and the prosecution faced an uphill battle. But one day someone overheard Sam talking to his attorney and he had admitting the deed. The someone was Bob Newman’s wife. She immediately went to the prosecutor and told him what she heard. She was crestfallen when the prosecutor informed her that her statement was not admissible because of attorney client privilege.
Sam was eventually found not guilty and is a free man today.

Natural Selection and Adaptation
Species that can adapt to a changing environment have a better chance of surviving and reproducing. However, species that cannot adapt to a changing environment may die off or become extinct.
Another type of adaptation is called mimicry. Many animals survive by mimicking other species as a way to avoid predators. For example, certain flies mimic the appearance and sound of bumblebees. Predators avoid the bumblebees, so they avoid the mimic flies too.
Adaptations are a part of the amazing diversity we see in species.
History
The Cold War: 1950s and 60s
The United States was gripped with fear in the 1950s. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were convicted of espionage for sending the Soviet Union the secret of the atomic bomb, and they were executed in the electric chair. The United States and the Soviet Union were in the midst of a “cold war” during that decade. Both countries were locked into the so-called “cold war” because of what both countries considered a “MAD” (Mutually Assured Destruction) situation.
Each knew that if they attacked the other it would spell doom for both sides. It was a decade of espionage for both sides, each wanting at all times to know what the other side was doing. Gary Powers, flying the U-2 spy plane was shot down over Russian soil.
